iPhone hack is out!  Keep your phone updated, very important

If you're an iPhone user it is very important to keep your iPhone up to date with the latest iOS operating system.   With Apple iPhone users making up 57% of the smart phone market in North America they also represent a lucritive target for data thieves and phone hackers.

What can phone hackers do and why should I care?

Smart phones are used in almost every aspect of our day to day lives.  They keep our contacts, we use them for banking, we have crypto currency trading apps, the list goes on and on.  Even two factor authorization, email authorization to our online purchasing and bank accounts, all accessible by our phones.

By getting into your phone, criminals can use this access to leverage other attacks against you, almost always related to fraud.

Apple released new emergency security updates on Wednesday to patch two new zero-day vulnerabilities known to be exploited in attacks.

"Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited against versions of iOS before iOS 16.6," the company said in an advisory issued recently.

Apple releases security updates frequesntly to keep its users protected, but this protection only comes if you update your iPhone!

The first zero-day (CVE-2023-42824) is caused by a weakness discovered in the XNU kernel that enables local attackers to escalate privileges on unpatched iPhones and iPads.

Other forms of Malware include iPhone's Pegasus hack software.  This malware has been spreading around that targets iOS devices specifically, by sending you a "dirty" file over text. You don't even have to open the file to be at risk.

If you'd like more information, the link below provides a very thorough overview of what the malware does, and how it spreads.
