Apple Laptop Screen Repair -cost to fix and why are they so expensive to fix?

So you just broke your MacBook screen and you are wondering what to do. How much will it cost? What options do you have? Should you fix it, or put the money into a new one?

Fixing damaged Apple laptop screens is a common repair service in our computer repair business. Damage ranges from noticeable cracks in the screen to complete non-functionality.

Can this damage be "fixed"? Well no, but the screen, and more specifically the top piece containing the screen, can be replaced. Since around 2013, Apple switched from a replaceable internal screen to an integrated screen "matrix," where the top piece of the laptop constitutes the entire screen. Damage to the screen, whether it's the glass or internal LCD, requires replacing the top screen assembly.

This transition to internal displays coincided with the introduction of higher resolution Retina screens. While they offer better resolution compared to older LCDs, they also come with a higher repair cost for fixing damaged, malfunctioning, and cracked Apple laptop screens.

At RescueTECH, we are members of Apple's Independent Repair Program (IRP). This means we use Apple Certified technicians and have access to Apple's training and diagnostic tools. This also gives us the flexibility in repairing Apple products, including the use of third-party and refurbished parts and software.

What is the cost to fix?

Typically, a current MacBook screen, 13-inch, costs around $700–$800 to replace. Larger and newer screens are more expensive, up to $1200 to replace. Older systems can be cheaper, typically around $400–$500.

Sometimes, the cost to repair a damaged MacBook screen is too high and does not make economic sense. In some cases, paying $700 to fix a five-year-old MacBook screen could be better spent on a new computer.

In these cases, we offer our data migration services to the customer. This involves migrating the data from the customer's computer to another system or an external drive. If the customer still wants to use the laptop, one option is to use an external display screen.
