How Much Does It Cost to Fix My iPad?
If you've cracked your iPad screen you are probably wondering what it's actually going to cost to get it fixed. The honest answer is: depends on the model and the type of damage, but it's almost always cheaper than you think, and usually a lot cheaper than replacing the whole device.
At RescueTECH, iPad repairs are something we do all the time, and we are Apple Certified to do them. Here is a breakdown of what things cost, what factors into the price, and what we have learned over the years.
What Does It Actually Cost?
The most common software fix we see are Apple iPad diagnositics, and software OS resets. These are each $50 plus tax. However when it comes to hardware repairs, the most common would be iPad screen replacements, so let's start there.
Screen Replacement
For a typical iPad, generations 6 through 10, a screen replacement runs around $155 - $165 for parts and labour (as of September 2026).
Pro and Air models are more expensive. On these models, the glass overlay and the digitizer are fused directly to the screen. That means a cracked screen isn't just a glass swap. We have to replace both the glass and the LCD underneath together. That pushes the cost up to around $350 to $450 depending on specific model.
What Determines the Final Price
When you bring in an iPad, the first thing we do is figure out exactly what is damaged. Is it just the glass, or is the LCD behind the glass also damaged? That distinction matters for both the price and the repair process. Once we know what we're dealing with, we quote accordingly and check the device in.
If we get your iPad in early enough in the day, we can often finish the repair the same day (if we have the parts). That said, we prefer for customers to pick it up the next day instead.
Here's why: letting the adhesive sit and set overnight helps prevent something called screen lift. This is where the glass overlay starts to separate from the frame after the repair. It's not a huge deal if it happens, the glass just needs to be reattached, but it's annoying for the customer. We would rather do the job right the first time than rush it and risk a return trip.
When It's Not Worth Fixing
Most of the time, fixing a screen or battery is far cheaper than buying a new iPad, so repair is the obvious choice. However there are situations where it starts to make less sense.
Older Air and Pro models can be expensive to fix given their screen construction. If you've got a 2015 iPad Pro, for example, putting $400 into a screen replacement is a tough call, and some people decide it's not worth it.
Apple Certification for iPads Is Newer Than You Think
Something most people don't realize is that it is only fairly recent that Apple started allowing shops to become Apple Certified for iPad repair. Up until a few years ago, Apple didn't officially consider iPads repairable. Even though shops like ours had been fixing them for a decade.
We're Apple Certified here at RescueTECH, which means we have access to Apple's proper configuration tools, especially useful on newer high-end models like the Pro line. That said, for most users and most repairs, quality aftermarket screens work great and get the job done just as well.
A Word on Aftermarket Parts
Apple has occasionally done things that make it harder to use aftermarket parts, but this is becoming rarer over time. For the vast majority of repairs it isn't an issue.
Fast Isn't Always Good
We used to send customer iPads out to a well-known local repair shop that advertised fast turnaround, same-day service. We "resold" their service. The problem was over half of the repairs they did for us came back because the screens lifted afterward.
Just because a shop promises a one hour turnaround doesn't mean you should take your iPad there. We can also do same-day repairs, but we recommend letting the adhesive set overnight for a reason: it actually holds. Fast isn't the same as good, and as it turns out, we are also about $20 cheaper than that "fast" shop anyway.
