Is Sending an iPad by Mail for Repair Safe?

If you live in a smaller community or rural area, finding someone in the iPad repair business can be a challenge.   Many communities simply don't have a computer repair shop that works on Apple iPads, XBOXs or other devices, which leaves people wondering whether it's safe to send their iPad through the mail.

The short answer is yes.

At RescueTECH, we have been repairing computers, laptops, iPads and game consoles for many years.  During that time we have regularly received devices from all over Saskatchewan using Canada Post, courier companies for iPad repair.

Is It Really Safe to Mail an iPad?

Based on our experience, yes.  We have had customers ship us everything from cracked iPads to laptops, desktop computers and even game consoles without issue.  The key isn't so much which courier you use.  It is how well the device is packaged before it leaves your home.

Whether your iPad is travelling across Regina or across Saskatchewan proper packaging  reduces the chance of damage during transit.

How Should You Package an iPad for Shipping?

If you are sending an iPad repair, spend a few extra minutes packaging it properly.

Use a Plain Box

Many people assume the original Apple box is the best choice.  While it does fit the iPad nicely, we actually recommend using a plain, non-descript shipping box.  An Apple box tells everyone handling the package that there is an expensive electronic device inside.  A plain cardboard box attracts far less attention.

Use Plenty of Padding

The iPad should not be able to move around inside the box.  Use generous amounts of bubble wrap, packing paper or other cushioning material to protect the device from impacts.  If the iPad can slide around inside the package, it isn't packed well enough.

Insure the Package

We also recommend purchasing shipping insurance for the replacement value of your iPad. Fortunately, adding insurance usually doesn't cost very much compared to the value of the device.  If you are already paying to ship your iPad, spend a few extra dollars for additional insurance.  It can provide valuable peace of mind.

What Information Should You Include?

Always include your contact information inside the package.  This should include:

  • Your name and contact phone number
  • A brief description of the problem
  • Your device passcode or password so we can fully test the repair after it is completed

If we have not already provided an estimate for your iPad repair, we will contact you using the information provided to discuss the repair and provide a quote.

We Waive the Diagnostic Fee for Mail-In Repairs

Shipping a device isn't free.  To help offset that cost, RescueTECH waives our diagnostic fee for devices that are shipped to us using a paid courier or Canada Post service.

What Types of iPad Repairs Can Be Mailed In?

Almost anything.  The most common mail-in repairs we receive include:

  • Cracked iPad screen replacements and iPad battery replacements

As long as it's packaged properly, mailing an iPad for repair is a practical option for customers throughout Saskatchewan and across Canada.

Why Mail Your iPad Instead of Using a Local Repair Shop?

We are big supporters of shopping locally.  If you have a reputable local repair shop in your community that provides quality work, by all means support them.

If you don't, like many smaller communities who do not have access to iPad repair technicians, mail-in repair makes sense.  It gives people access to professional iPad repair services that simply are not available where they live.

Why Customers Choose RescueTECH

We believe customers choose RescueTECH because of our experience, workmanship and reputation.    Whether someone walks through our front door or ships a device from another part of Saskatchewan, they receive the same attention to detail and quality workmanship.  We believe mail in repair gives people another option when local service is not available.

Final Thoughts

So, is it safe to send an iPad by mail for repair?  Based on our experience, absolutely.

We have received mailed-in devices from customers across Saskatchewan and beyond.  We honestly can not recall one arriving damaged in transit.

  • Use a plain shipping box.
  • Pack the device with plenty of padding.
  • Purchase insurance for the replacement value.
  • Include your contact information and device passcode.
  • Back up your data before shipping.

Do those things, and mailing your iPad for repair is a safe, practical option.
