MacBook Battery Replacement in Regina
MacBook battery replacement in Regina is one of the most common repairs we do at RescueTECH. If your MacBook does not last as long as it used to, or macOS is showing "Service Recommended," our Apple Certified technicians can replace the battery and give your MacBook a new lease on life. Every battery we install is covered by our 180-day warranty. No appointment necessary.
Signs Your MacBook Battery Needs Replacing
Most MacBook batteries last about three to four years before they start to wear out. The signs we hear about most often are:
- It does not hold a charge as long as it used to. This is by far the most common reason customers come in. A MacBook that once lasted all day now needs the charger by early afternoon.
- macOS says "Service Recommended." Your MacBook keeps track of its own battery condition and shows this message under Battery in System Settings when the battery has worn down. We give Apple credit for this one. It is a genuinely useful reminder that takes the guesswork out of knowing when a battery is done.
- Both at once. Many customers see the warning and notice the shorter battery life together.
Swollen MacBook Batteries: Do Not Wait
Swollen batteries are very common in older MacBooks. As a battery ages, it can build up gas inside and begin to expand. You may notice:
- The trackpad becoming stiff, uneven or hard to click
- The bottom case starting to bulge or lift
- The MacBook no longer sitting flat on a desk
- A sweet chemical smell coming from the laptop
A swollen battery will not fix itself. If it is not replaced, it will keep expanding, interfere with the trackpad and eventually damage the MacBook's case. If you notice any of these signs, stop using and charging the MacBook and bring it in as soon as you can.
Genuine Apple or Quality Aftermarket Batteries
As an Apple Independent Repair Provider, RescueTECH can install either a genuine Apple (OEM) battery or a high-quality aftermarket battery. Apple Authorized Service Providers can only use Apple parts, which is one reason their repairs can cost more.
We have had great success with high-quality aftermarket batteries. They are often $200 to $300 less than a genuine Apple battery, and in our experience macOS still reports battery health normally afterward.
Here is how we think about it. Apple considers a MacBook "vintage" five years after it was last sold and "obsolete" after seven, at which point Apple stops providing parts and service. If your MacBook is already a few years old, paying hundreds of dollars more for a genuine Apple battery often does not make sense for a laptop that will reach the end of Apple's support in two or three years. If you would still prefer a genuine Apple battery, we are happy to quote and install one. The choice is yours.
How Much Does MacBook Battery Replacement Cost?
The price depends on your MacBook model and whether you choose a genuine Apple or aftermarket battery. The fastest way to get an exact price is to text or call us with your model, and we will give you an upfront quote before any work is done.
Not sure which MacBook you have? Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen and choose About This Mac. Your model and year are listed there.
How Long Does It Take?
Batteries do not like sitting on a shelf. A battery that goes unused for months slowly loses its life, so instead of keeping old stock, we order a fresh battery for your specific MacBook. Once ordered, the typical turnaround for a MacBook battery replacement is 2 to 3 business days.
You have two options while we wait for your battery:
- Leave it with us. We order the battery, install it as soon as it arrives, and call you when your MacBook is ready for pickup.
- Keep using your MacBook in the meantime. Pay a deposit of half the job and take your MacBook home. When the battery arrives, we call you to bring it in. In most cases, if you drop it off earlier in the day, we install the battery the same day.
Every MacBook is tested with its new battery before it leaves our shop. There is no risk to your data during a battery replacement. Even so, a recent backup is always a good habit. See our guide on how to back up your Mac with Time Machine.
Why Choose RescueTECH Over an Apple Authorized Service Provider?
- No appointment needed. Apple Authorized Service Providers require an appointment, and those appointments are often a week or more out. At RescueTECH, you simply drop in.
- More choice and better value. We can use genuine Apple or quality aftermarket batteries. Apple Authorized locations are limited to Apple parts.
- Every technician is Apple Certified. All of our technicians are Apple Certified, and each has 7+ years of repair experience.
- Our warranty covers your battery. Some repair shops advertise long warranties that exclude batteries. At RescueTECH, your new battery is covered by our 180-day warranty, the same as every other part we install.
- Upfront quotes from non-commissioned staff.
- Local and 100% Canadian. RescueTECH is a Regina business, 100% Canadian owned and operated.
The one thing we cannot do is AppleCare warranty repairs. If your MacBook is still covered by AppleCare, contact Apple first.

Make Your New Battery Last
A few simple habits will help your new battery last longer:
- Keep the charge between 15% and 80% as much as possible.
- Unplug your MacBook when you are not using it, rather than leaving it plugged in at 100% for days.
- Leave Optimized Battery Charging turned on. It may feel like it is holding back some of your battery, but it is there to protect it.

MacBook Battery Replacement FAQs
How long does MacBook battery replacement take?
The typical turnaround is 2 to 3 business days once the battery is ordered. If you pay a deposit and keep your MacBook while the battery ships, we can usually install it the same day you drop it off, as long as you bring it in earlier in the day.
How much does it cost to replace a MacBook battery?
It depends on your model and the type of battery you choose. Text or call (306) 205-7522 with your MacBook model for an upfront quote.
Should I choose a genuine Apple or aftermarket battery?
Both are good options. Quality aftermarket batteries are often $200 to $300 less, and we have had great success with them. For an older MacBook, an aftermarket battery is usually the better value.
Will my battery health still show in macOS?
In our experience, yes. With the aftermarket batteries we use, macOS continues to report battery health normally.
Will I lose my data?
No. A battery replacement does not affect your files.
Is my new battery covered by a warranty?
Yes. Unlike some shops whose warranties exclude batteries, every battery we install is covered by our 180-day warranty.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Just drop in during business hours.
Is my swollen battery dangerous?
A swollen battery should be replaced as soon as possible. Stop using and charging the MacBook, and bring it in. The longer it is left, the more damage it can do to the trackpad and case.
